IOM allocates annual resources and plans for the capacity development of staff across regions and missions. Training on Project Management (PM) aligned with PRIMA, an institutional project management solution was a key requirement.
The training covered various aspects of PM including Project development, Resource Mobilization, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Knowledge Management, and Reporting. It was targeted towards key staff across all country offices as identified by ROs. While this was done in classrooms before, IOM ventured to upgrade and customize the training package for effective virtual delivery.
APEX Global in partnership with ASSIST was selected as the content development partner for this initiative through competitive bidding. The team carried out a deep dive content evaluation and needs assessment study with key global stakeholders to establish learning objectives and expected learning outcomes.
Through an adaptive development approach and a mix of instructional design strategies, the classroom training was upgraded to a virtual training package.
Learner attention, practical application, global time zones, and experience exchange among learners were considered critical during the design process.
The engagement produced a virtual training delivery package for a 32-hour staggering program. This package included:
– Participant handouts
– Facilitator guide
– Activity workbooks
– Online group activities and assessments using tools such as Mural and Kahoot
A series of pilot tests were executed to evaluate the effectiveness of the course and the content was upgraded further for successful delivery.
